How to Configure Notification Preferences on Android

Master your Android notification settings. Control alerts, silence apps, and customize lock screen privacy in minutes.

  1. Open system notification settings. Open the Settings app on your device. Navigate to Notifications to view the global configuration for your apps.
  2. Manage app-specific notifications. Select App settings from the Notifications menu. Locate the application you wish to modify and toggle the switch to enabled or disabled.
  3. Set notification categories. Once inside an app's notification settings, tap Notification categories. Adjust the importance levels to determine if alerts should make sound or appear silently.
  4. Adjust lock screen visibility. Return to the main Notifications menu and select Notifications on lock screen. Choose between showing all content, sensitive content only when unlocked, or hiding notifications entirely.
  5. Do Not Disturb. Navigate back to Settings and tap Sound & vibration. Select Do Not Disturb to set automatic schedules or allow exceptions for priority contacts.
