How to Securely Set Up Fingerprint Unlock on Android

Configure your Android fingerprint sensor for maximum security and reliability. Follow these steps to register your biometrics and protect your device.

1. Open the Security settings. Open the Settings app on your device. Navigate to Security & Privacy and select Device Unlock to access biometric authentication settings.
2. Verify your identity. Select Fingerprint Unlock. You will be prompted to enter your existing PIN, pattern, or password to ensure you are authorized to make changes to biometric data.
3. Scan your fingerprint. Tap Add Fingerprint and place your finger on the sensor. Lift and place your finger repeatedly, adjusting the angle slightly with each press to capture the edges of your print.
4. Finalize the registration. Once the progress circle is complete, tap Done. To improve accuracy, repeat the process for a different finger or the same finger held at a different orientation.
5. Review security preferences. Within the Fingerprint Unlock menu, ensure Fingerprint Unlock is enabled for your specific requirements. You may toggle the use of fingerprints for App Sign-in or Payments if supported by your banking apps.
