How to set up a new Android device as a clean slate

Configure your new Android phone from scratch without migrating old apps or data. Follow this guide to ensure a clean, optimized installation.

  1. Initiate the setup process. Power on the device and select your language preference. Tap Start and connect to a secure Wi-Fi network to begin the configuration sequence.
  2. Bypass the data transfer prompt. When the Copy apps & data screen appears, select Don't copy. This action prevents the device from importing applications and settings from a previous backup.
  3. Sign in to your Google Account. Enter your email address and password when prompted. Accept the Terms of Service to enable core Google services like the Play Store and Play Protect.
  4. Set up biometric and PIN security. Choose a secure PIN, pattern, or password. Register your fingerprint or face data as prompted to enable encrypted device unlocking.
  5. Disable unnecessary Google services. Review the Google Services menu. Toggle off features such as Location Scanning, Usage & Diagnostics, and Install updates & apps if you prefer to maintain maximum privacy and system control.
  6. Complete the Home Screen setup. Tap Done or Finish to reach the Android launcher. You are now running a clean environment with no legacy application data.
