How to Secure Your Google Account on Android
Follow these essential steps to lock down your Google account on Android, enable 2FA, and review active devices to prevent unauthorized access.
- Navigate to Google Account settings. Open the Settings app on your Android device. Scroll down and tap Google, then select Manage your Google Account.
- Run the Security Checkup. Tap the Security tab in the top navigation bar. Select Security Checkup to identify potential vulnerabilities, such as unauthorized devices or outdated recovery information.
- Enable 2-Step Verification. Within the Security tab, locate the 2-Step Verification menu. Follow the prompts to add your phone number and confirm your identity via Google Prompt or an Authenticator app.
- Review active devices. Scroll to the Your devices section in the Security tab and tap Manage all devices. Identify any unrecognized devices and tap Sign out to revoke their access immediately.
- Audit third-party application access. Return to the Security tab and select Your connections to third-party apps and services. Review the list of applications with access to your account data and tap to remove any that are no longer required.
- Update recovery information. In the Security tab, select Recovery email or Recovery phone. Ensure both are current and that you still have access to the associated accounts or numbers.
