How to Reset Family Link Parental Controls

Follow this step-by-step guide to reset Family Link parental controls on an Android device and remove supervision from a child's account.

  1. Open the Family Link app on the parent device. Launch the Family Link application on your primary device. Select the child's account profile from the dashboard to access the specific management settings for that user.
  2. Access account information settings. Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner, then select Account info. Within this menu, choose Stop supervision to initiate the removal process.
  3. Acknowledge the supervision removal warnings. Review the on-screen prompts regarding the consequences of removing supervision. Check the boxes confirming you understand the changes, then tap Stop supervision to proceed.
  4. Complete the process on the child's device. Pick up the child's Android device. A notification will appear indicating that supervision has been removed; tap it to verify the status and allow the system to sync the account changes.
  5. Remove the Family Link account association. Navigate to Settings > Passwords & accounts on the child's device. Select the Google account previously supervised and remove it if you intend to add a new account or restore factory defaults.
  6. Perform a factory reset for a clean slate. To ensure all remnants of parental controls are purged, go to Settings > System > Reset options on the child's device. Select Erase all data (factory reset) to restore the hardware to its original out-of-box state.
