How to Transfer Data with Samsung Smart Switch
Learn how to transfer contacts, photos, and messages to your new Samsung Galaxy device using the Smart Switch application.
- Install Smart Switch on both devices. Download and install the Samsung Smart Switch app from the Google Play Store on both your source and target devices. If you are migrating from an iOS device, ensure the app is installed on the Galaxy device and that you have your iCloud credentials ready.
- Launch the application. Open the Smart Switch app on both phones. On the new Galaxy device, select Receive Data, then choose the appropriate source platform: Galaxy/Android, iPhone/iPad, or PC.
- Establish the device connection. Select Cable if you are using a physical USB-C to USB-C or Lightning to USB-C cable for the fastest transfer speeds. Alternatively, select Wireless to connect the devices via a direct peer-to-peer Wi-Fi signal.
- Choose data for migration. On the new device, review the list of available categories such as Contacts, Messages, Images, and Apps. Toggle the switches to include or exclude specific data types, or select Everything for a complete mirror of your previous device.
- Execute the transfer process. Tap Transfer to begin moving files to the new device. Do not close the app or disconnect the devices while the progress bar is active, as this may result in data corruption.
- Organize transferred content. Once the transfer reaches 100%, tap Done on the new device. The phone will perform a final organization scan, after which your data will be accessible in your Gallery, Messages, and Contacts apps.
