How to initiate your first Android backup

Manually trigger your first Google One backup on Android to secure your apps, photos, and settings immediately after device setup.

  1. Open system settings. Unlock your device and locate the Settings app. Tap the gear icon to open the main system configuration menu.
  2. Access Google services. Scroll down the list and tap the Google menu item. This opens your Google account management page for the device.
  3. Locate backup settings. Select the Backup option located within the list of service settings. This displays the current status of your Google One data synchronization.
  4. Enable account backup. Verify the toggle next to Backup by Google One is switched to the On position. If it is disabled, tap the switch to initialize the service connection.
  5. Trigger the backup. Tap the Back up now button at the bottom of the screen. The system will begin aggregating your app data, call history, and device settings to your cloud storage.
