How to Install and Configure a Password Manager on Android
Secure your digital identity. Learn how to install, set up, and integrate a password manager on your Android device for automated, secure logins.
- Download your chosen password manager. Open the Google Play Store and search for your preferred password manager, such as Bitwarden, 1Password, or Dashlane. Tap Install to begin the download and installation process. Wait for the application icon to appear on your home screen or in your app drawer.
- Initialize your account. Launch the application and select Create Account. Follow the on-screen prompts to establish your master password, which acts as the sole key to your vault. Store this master password in a secure, physical location, as it cannot be recovered by the service provider.
- Set the Autofill service. Navigate to Settings on your Android device. Search for Autofill service in the search bar and select the corresponding option under Languages & input. Tap Autofill service again and choose your password manager from the list, confirming the selection when prompted.
- Enable accessibility permissions. Some password managers require accessibility services to function properly in older apps. If prompted by the app, navigate to Settings, select Accessibility, and locate your password manager. Toggle the service to On to allow the application to bridge login forms.
- Test the autofill functionality. Open any app that requires a login, such as your email or social media client. Tap into the username or password field; your password manager will provide a pop-up suggestion. Tap the suggestion to automatically populate your credentials.
