How to Customize Android Notification Categories

Take control of your Android alerts by customizing individual notification categories for granular control over sounds, vibration, and visibility.

1. Access application notification settings. Open the Settings app on your device. Navigate to Apps, select See all apps, and tap the specific application you wish to modify.
2. Open the notification categories menu. Tap on Notifications within the app's info page. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select Notification categories.
3. Select a specific notification type. Review the list of available categories for the app. Tap the text—not the toggle switch—of the specific category you want to customize to enter its detail menu.
4. Set priority and alert behavior. Choose between Alerting to receive sound and vibration, or Silent to receive the notification without visual or auditory interruption. Toggle Pop on screen to enable or disable the appearance of floating banner notifications.
5. Define custom sound and vibration. Tap Sound to select a unique ringtone for this specific category. Toggle Vibration on or off based on your preference for haptic feedback.
