How to Use Midjourney for Beginners
Learn to create AI images with Midjourney. Complete beginner guide covering Discord setup, prompt writing, and image generation basics.
- Join the Midjourney Discord server. Visit midjourney.com and click Join the Beta. Sign in with your Discord account or create one if needed. Accept the server invitation to access Midjourney's channels.
- Subscribe to a Midjourney plan. Type /subscribe in any channel and press Enter. Click the subscription link in Midjourney Bot's response. Choose a plan starting at $10/month for the Basic plan, which includes 200 image generations.
- Navigate to a newbie channel. Find channels labeled newbies-1 through newbies-150 in the sidebar. Click any available newbie channel to enter. These channels are designed for beginners to practice without cluttering experienced user spaces.
- Write your first prompt. Type /imagine followed by a space and your image description. Be specific about what you want: subject, style, lighting, colors, and composition. Press Enter to submit your prompt to the generation queue.
- Wait for image generation. Midjourney generates four image variations in approximately 60 seconds. A progress bar shows generation status. The bot posts your completed grid of four images with buttons below for further actions.
- Select and upscale your favorite image. Click U1, U2, U3, or U4 buttons to upscale the corresponding image in the grid (numbered left to right, top to bottom). Upscaling increases resolution and adds fine details for the final high-quality version.
- Download your generated image. Click the upscaled image to open it full-size in Discord. Right-click the image and select Save Image As to download it to your computer. The file saves as a high-resolution PNG ready for use.
