How to Fix AI Images with Wrong Hands

Learn to fix AI-generated images with distorted, missing, or extra fingers using inpainting, manual editing, and prompt techniques.

  1. Use AI inpainting to regenerate hands. Open your AI image generator with inpainting capability (Stable Diffusion, DALL-E 2, or Midjourney). Upload your problematic image and mask only the hand area using the selection tool. Set your prompt to 'realistic human hand with five fingers' and run the inpainting process with the same style parameters as your original image.
  2. Edit hands manually in Photoshop. Open the image in Adobe Photoshop and create a new layer above the background. Upload a reference image with correct hand poses or create a pose skeleton. Generate your image using the pose as a guide, ensuring the AI follows proper hand anatomy. Combine with detailed prompts specifying 'anatomically correct hands, five fingers each hand'.
  6. Refine details with digital painting techniques. Create a new layer and use a small, soft brush (2-5 pixels) to paint individual finger details. Add highlights on knuckles and fingertips with a white brush at 10-20% opacity. Paint shadows between fingers using a dark brown or purple at low opacity. Use the Smudge Tool (R) to blend harsh edges and create natural skin texture.
  7. Apply final color correction and sharpening. Create a Color Balance adjustment layer and fine-tune the hand colors to match the rest of the image. Add an Unsharp Mask filter with Amount 80-120%, Radius 1-2 pixels, and Threshold 3-5 levels. Use a layer mask to apply sharpening only to the corrected hand areas while preserving the original image quality elsewhere.
