How to Use Claude Artifacts Feature

Learn to create, edit, and manage Claude Artifacts for code, documents, and interactive content. Master this powerful AI collaboration tool.

  1. Request artifact-eligible content. Ask Claude to create substantial, standalone content like code files, HTML pages, documents, or interactive applications. Use specific requests like 'Create a Python script that...' or 'Build an HTML calculator.' Claude automatically generates artifacts for content that exceeds simple snippets or explanations.
  2. Locate the artifact panel. When Claude creates an artifact, it appears in a dedicated panel to the right of the conversation on desktop or below the message on mobile. The panel shows a preview of your content with the artifact title at the top. Interactive content like HTML pages renders live in this panel.
  3. Copy or download the content. Click the copy icon in the top-right corner of the artifact panel to copy the entire contents to your clipboard. For code artifacts, this preserves formatting and indentation. Some artifacts may offer download options for saving files directly to your computer.
  4. Edit and iterate on artifacts. Request changes by describing modifications in the chat. Say 'Add a dark mode toggle to this webpage' or 'Modify the function to handle edge cases.' Claude updates the existing artifact rather than creating a new one, maintaining your revision history.
  5. View artifact version history. Click the version indicator or history button in the artifact header to see previous versions. Navigate between versions using the arrow buttons or version list. Each version corresponds to a conversation turn where Claude modified the content.
  6. Test interactive artifacts. For HTML, JavaScript, or interactive content, use the artifact panel as a live preview. Click buttons, fill forms, and interact with elements directly in the panel. Report any issues or desired changes to Claude for immediate updates.
  7. Manage multiple artifacts. When you create multiple artifacts in one conversation, use the artifact selector or tabs to switch between them. Each artifact maintains its own version history and can be edited independently. Reference artifacts by name when requesting modifications to specific ones.
