How to Use ChatGPT with DALL-E
Generate images directly in ChatGPT using DALL-E. Learn to write effective prompts, edit images, and combine text and visual AI capabilities.
- Verify your ChatGPT Plus subscription. Open ChatGPT and check for the Plus badge next to your account name in the bottom left corner. DALL-E integration requires an active ChatGPT Plus subscription. If you see 'Upgrade to Plus' instead, you'll need to subscribe first.
- Start a new conversation or continue an existing one. Click 'New chat' or open any existing conversation thread. DALL-E works within regular ChatGPT conversations, so you can mix image generation with text-based requests seamlessly.
- Write your image generation prompt. Type a descriptive prompt for the image you want to create. Use specific details about style, composition, colors, and subjects. For example: 'Create a minimalist logo featuring a blue mountain silhouette with clean sans-serif text below it.'
- Send the prompt and wait for generation. Press Enter or click the send button. ChatGPT will automatically detect your image request and generate the image using DALL-E. The generation process typically takes 10-30 seconds.
- Review and interact with the generated image. The image appears directly in the conversation thread. Click the image to view it full-size. You can download it by clicking the download icon in the top-right corner of the image.
- Request modifications or variations. Ask ChatGPT to modify the image by typing follow-up requests like 'Make the background darker' or 'Add a red accent color.' You can also request completely new variations based on the same concept.
- Combine with text-based tasks. Use the generated images as part of larger projects by asking ChatGPT to help with related text content. For example, generate a logo and then ask for brand guidelines or marketing copy to accompany it.
