How to Use ChatGPT Plugins

Learn to install, enable, and use ChatGPT plugins to extend AI capabilities with web browsing, code execution, and third-party integrations.

1. Verify your ChatGPT Plus subscription. Open ChatGPT and check your subscription status in the bottom-left corner. Plugins require an active ChatGPT Plus subscription. If you see 'Upgrade to Plus', click it and complete the subscription process.
2. Access the plugin store. Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner, then select 'Settings'. Navigate to 'Beta features' and toggle on 'Plugins'. Return to the main chat interface and click 'GPT-4' at the top of the page, then select 'Plugins'.
3. Browse and install plugins. Click 'No plugins enabled' then 'Plugin store'. Browse available plugins or use the search bar to find specific tools. Click on any plugin to view its description and capabilities, then click 'Install' to add it to your account.
4. Enable plugins for your conversation. Return to the main chat interface and click the plugin dropdown menu above the message box. Select up to 3 plugins you want to use simultaneously. The selected plugins will show checkmarks and appear in your active plugin list.
5. Use plugins in your prompts. Type your request normally in the chat box. ChatGPT will automatically determine when to use enabled plugins based on your query. For web-related tasks, it will use browsing plugins. For calculations or data analysis, it will use code execution plugins.
6. Monitor plugin usage. Watch for plugin indicators in ChatGPT's responses. When a plugin is active, you'll see a small icon and plugin name above the response. Click these indicators to see exactly what the plugin did and what data it accessed.
7. Manage installed plugins. Access your plugin library by clicking the plugin dropdown and selecting 'Plugin store'. View all installed plugins under 'Installed'. Click 'Uninstall' next to any plugin you no longer need to remove it from your account.
