How to Use ChatGPT Advanced Data Analysis

Learn to upload files, run data analysis, and create visualizations using ChatGPT's Advanced Data Analysis feature with step-by-step instructions.

  1. Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus or higher. Access ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise at chat.openai.com. Advanced Data Analysis requires a paid subscription and is not available in the free tier. Click your profile icon and select 'Upgrade to Plus' if needed.
  2. Enable Advanced Data Analysis. Click the GPT-4 dropdown menu at the top of a new conversation. Select 'Advanced Data Analysis' from the model options. The interface will refresh to show the file upload capability.
  3. Upload your data file. Click the paperclip icon next to the message input field. Select your file from your computer. Supported formats include CSV, Excel, JSON, PDF, images, and text files up to 512MB each.
  4. Describe your analysis goals. Type what you want to accomplish with your data. Be specific about the type of analysis, visualizations, or insights you need. For example: 'Create a scatter plot showing the relationship between age and income, then calculate the correlation coefficient.'
  5. Review the generated code. ChatGPT will write and execute Python code to analyze your data. The code appears in gray code blocks before execution. Review this code to understand what analysis is being performed and verify it matches your requirements.
  6. Download results and visualizations. Generated charts, modified datasets, and analysis reports appear with download links. Click 'Download' next to any output you want to save. Files are saved in their original format or as PNG for visualizations.
  7. Iterate and refine your analysis. Ask follow-up questions to modify visualizations, perform additional calculations, or explore different aspects of your data. Each request builds on the previous analysis within the same conversation.
