How to Use Make.com for Beginners

Learn Make.com basics: create accounts, build automations, connect apps, and set up your first workflow. Complete beginner's guide with step-by-step instructions.

  1. Create your Make.com account. Navigate to make.com and click Sign Up. Enter your email address and create a password. Verify your email through the confirmation message Make.com sends to your inbox. Choose the Free plan to start with 1,000 operations per month.
  2. Navigate the Make.com dashboard. Log into your account to see the main dashboard. The left sidebar shows Scenarios (your automations), Templates (pre-built workflows), and Teams. The center area displays your scenario list. Click Create a new scenario to start building your first automation.
  3. Choose your trigger app. Click the plus icon in the scenario builder to add your first module. Search for and select the app that will start your automation—this is your trigger. Common triggers include Gmail for new emails, Google Sheets for new rows, or webhooks for external events. Click the app icon to add it to your scenario.
  4. Connect and configure your trigger. Click Create a connection to link your chosen app to Make.com. Follow the OAuth authorization process to grant Make.com access to your account. Select the specific trigger event (like New Email or New Row). Configure any filters or conditions that determine when the automation should run.
  5. Add your action modules. Click the plus icon after your trigger to add action modules. Select the apps where you want to send data or perform actions. Configure each module by mapping data from your trigger to the appropriate fields. Use the variable picker to insert dynamic content from previous steps.
  6. Test your complete scenario. Click Run once to execute your scenario with real data. Watch each module execute in sequence and verify the outputs match your expectations. Check that data flows correctly between modules and that your final actions complete successfully. Fix any errors by adjusting module configurations.
  7. Activate your automation. Click the toggle switch next to your scenario name to turn on automatic execution. Set your scheduling preference—immediately when triggered or at specific intervals. Your scenario will now run automatically whenever the trigger conditions are met. Monitor execution history in the scenario details page.
