Preparing Your Current iPhone for Quick Start Migration

Follow these precise steps to prepare your current iPhone for a seamless Quick Start data transfer to a new device.

  1. Update to the latest iOS version. Navigate to Settings, tap General, and select Software Update. If an update is available, download and install it to ensure full compatibility with the target device.
  2. Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Quick Start requires both radios to be active for peer-to-peer discovery. Open Control Center and verify that the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi icons are highlighted in blue.
  3. Confirm Apple ID sign-in. Go to Settings and verify your Apple ID banner is present at the top. Ensure you are signed in, as this account will be used to automatically set up your new device.
  4. Perform a manual iCloud backup. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup. Tap Back Up Now to ensure your most recent health data, keychain, and settings are captured before the migration.
  5. Disable paired accessories. If you use an Apple Watch, it is recommended to unpair it from your old phone first if you intend to move it to the new device. Go to the Watch app, select All Watches, tap the 'i' icon, and select Unpair Apple Watch.
