How to set up Face ID on your iPhone

Configure Face ID on your new iPhone to enable secure biometric authentication for unlocking, payments, and app access.

  1. Navigate to Face ID settings. Open the Settings app from your Home Screen. Scroll down and tap Face ID & Passcode, then enter your device passcode when prompted.
  2. Start the registration process. Tap Set Up Face ID. Your iPhone will open the camera interface to begin mapping your facial structure.
  3. Record your face. Position your face within the frame shown on the display. Gently move your head in a circular motion to allow the TrueDepth camera system to capture all angles of your face.
  4. Complete the first scan. Once the first scan is complete, tap Continue. Repeat the circular head motion for the second scan to finalize the biometric profile.
  5. Apply settings and finish. After the second scan, tap Done. Your iPhone is now configured to use Face ID for unlocking, Apple Pay, and password autofill.
